Rachel's Birthday! Daddy's 30th Birthday!

Look at my little guy! He's getting so big!
Tooth number 8 broke through! He's standing for a couple minutes at a time. He's loving teething biscuits and we even gave him some pizza crust this past weekend. He had fun with it and the dog got quite a big snack out of it too!
This is Dexter's new thing... Playing under this chair and crawling through it. It's so cute. He looks around while he's doing it to see if we're watching. He gets so proud of himself.
Justin's 30th Birthday was on Friday. Dexter and I planned a surprise birthday dinner for him. Unfortunately, we didn't get any pics. A bunch of friends were waiting at one of our usual places and surprised him.  His present was our trip to Reno. I did get him some special b-day cupcakes, inspired by Dexter's love of doggies. Too Cute...
This is late news, but we went out to Greensboro last Sunday for our little friend Rachel's 1st birthday party! Rachel was one of Dexter's very first friends. Her Mom, Maggie, was due just a few days before I was. Rachel arrived about 2 months early. She had a tough beginning and was a little fighter! She's an adorable, amazing little girl. Go to Maggie's Blog to read about Rachel's story and to see better pics from the party :)

Dexter def attacked the other little boy at the party. Oh, and a poodle. He hasn't really figured out how to greet people when he's excited yet. He grabs and pulls hair. He's just really out-going :)

Reno/Tahoe Trip

A couple weeks ago Justin and I took a trip to visit our friends Chuck and Ivey in Reno, NV. Dexter stayed with his grandparents in Wilmington, NC (about 3 1/2 hrs away from Charlotte).
My In-Laws came to pick up Dexter on a Tuesday night. When they took him away it was a gut wrenching experience. I knew he would have fun and be taken care of, but it just felt like I was letting go of him forever. After they left our driveway, I immediately thought that taking a vacation was a terrible decision and that I was the world's worst Mother for going away from him. Hours later I calmed down. Every day that we were gone (away from Dexter Tue night through Monday night, almost a week!), we called and checked in on him. I could hear him in the background, playing and having a good time. Hearing his happy noises made me feel so much better about taking time for ourselves. Justin's Mom drove Dexter back to our house on Monday. Monday evening we got home late. Dexter should have been sleeping, but he just happened to wake up when we got home. We were so freaking happy to see and hold him. It was so strange, he looked different, bigger and older. I guess they do grow a lot in a week!
Onto our trip...and lots of photos...
We stayed in Reno, where our friends live. The first day we were there, we pretty much just chilled. Which was exactly what I needed. Jet lag, bad! Two of the days of our trip were spent at Lake Tahoe. It was so beautiful!
We hiked and enjoyed amazing scenery.
Picnic time! I'm always bugging Justin to take me on a picnic. Perfect setting...on the beach, the woods.
Chuck and Ivy...
Hiking...
Angora Lake...
We have a very funny story about Justin struggling to swim across this lake to jump off the cliffs, and Chuck swimming across the lake to NOT jump off the cliff, hahaha! You had to be there:)
Chuck is in the freezing cold water already, Justin is about to start the journey.
 Outhouse...
 And, shopping...
We had so much fun! I hated being away from my little guy, but it was good for us to get away and be just us for a little while.

First Cold

We've been home for almost two weeks now and Dexter has slept through the night maybe two of the nights. Arggg... the first few days I'm sure he was just re-adjusting. The pic above is from this past weekend when I think he started feeling bad :( His nose was running alot, no temp. I thought it was just his teeth. (Tooth number 7 is still working it's way through.)
On Sunday it became clear that it was a cold. His nose was running like a faucet. Yuck!!! Poor little guy.
Monday morning rolled around and he didn't seem any better. I was worried about taking him to the sitter because I didn't want him to give it to the other kids. Luckily, all three of the other kids also had this cold. Neither Justin or I have any sick time available, so we'd be screwed if we couldn't take him to the sitter.

In other news, he's standing for about a minute at a time! I don't think he knows he's doing it. He usually has toys in his hands and just stops holding on. Any day now!
